TORONTO, Canada and HAMBURG, Germany – comdu.it is greatly saddened to hear of the attacks in Sri Lanka on April 21, 2019, when churches, hotels, and other sites were rocked by explosions, resulting in hundreds of lives lost and many more injured.
“Sri Lanka has an unfortunate history of violence directed against ethnic and religious minorities perpetrated by various actors over the years. The scale of yesterday’s violence has profound implications as it comes at a critical juncture when communities in Sri Lanka, as well as its diasporas, prepare to commemorate ten years of the gruesome end of the armed conflict and its yet unresolved trauma,” said Kumaran Nadesan, Founding Chair, comdu.it.
comdu.it hopes the perpetrators of yesterday’s attacks are brought to justice in accordance with the Rule of Law. It also unreservedly condemns Islamophobia and any forms of racism that seek to perpetuate another cycle of violence on the island.
comdu.it extends its deepest condolences to families of the victims and those injured as we stand in solidarity and prayer with Christian communities, our local partners, and others in their darkest hour.
