Dr. Birasaath is currently a physician in the Vavuniya General Hospital’s Outpatient Department. In December 2008, he lost both his legs as the war in Sri Lanka entered its final stages. Becoming a double amputee, however, did not deter Dr. Birasaath from pursuing his lifelong dream to serve his people.

On October 27, 2017, photographer Priya Tharmaseelan, in collaboration with comdu.it, held a successful fundraiser at the prestigious London Club to raise funds to fit Dr. Birasaath with state-of-the-art prosthetics so that he can better practise medicine.

The fundraiser netted CAD $12,098 in proceeds, and was well attended by London, Ontario’s business and healthcare community as well as a small delegation from Toronto.

The funds have already been allocated to fit Dr. Birasaath with two 1E56 Axtion Prosthetic Feet with Titanium legs in January 2018, as well as for any ongoing medical follow up as needed.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank those who stepped up to support such a worthy cause and help heal a healer.
