TORONTO AND LOS ANGELES, Nov. 19, 2018 – comdu.it and Visions Global Empowerment announce a strategic partnership today that enables both organizations to better fulfill their long-term commitment to the sustainable development of the Tamil-speaking communities of Sri Lanka. As part of this partnership, individuals and corporations based in the United States can now donate to comdu.it and be eligible for tax-deductible receipts for their donations.

Since 2016, comdu.it has worked with numerous local partners in Sri Lanka to place 21 changemakers – educators, social workers, business and ICT professionals, and urban planners – in nearly a dozen cities across the North, East and Central Provinces focused on four thematic areas, including Leadership Development, Economic Empowerment, Psychosocial Support, and Public Sector Capacity Building.

“comdu.it is founded by global citizens who are passionate about the unique role that diasporas are able to play in international development – and specifically to bring about a generational shift in how the global Tamil-speaking diaspora engages in the development of the North and East of Sri Lanka going forward”, said Kumaran Nadesan, Founding Chair at comdu.it. “Our partnership with Visions is key to our growth strategy as we look to expand our work to the United States even as we build a more resilient organization.”

Worldwide, millions of children face immense daily hardships that prevent them from accessing a quality education or preparing themselves for a meaningful, educated, and independent life. Since 2003, Visions has labored tirelessly in creating educational and personal development opportunities that serve community needs and enable youth to improve their own lives and overall well-being.

“Visions has a successful track record of implementing leadership programs in Sri Lanka which has helped us build robust programs focused on personal development and life skills development that we have taken to other countries such as Ethiopia, India, and Nicaragua”, said Meera Pathmarajah, Founder at Visions Global Empowerment. “We are excited to support the new momentum that comdu.it has begun to create with the next generational engagement in Sri Lanka.”
